REGISTER TO VOTE ABROAD

Who can register?

  •  - Any Costa Rican citizen living abroad that wishes to exercise his or her right to vote.
  • - Any person that applies for an identification card (cédula de identidad) or its renewal may indicate their residence address outside of Costa Rica.

Requirements:

  1. Request letter indicating the country where the person wants to be a registered to vote. The e-mail and/or phone number for notifications must be provided.
  2. Copy of both sides of your valid identification card (cédula de identidad). If the identification card is expired, a new one can be requested.
  3. Filled application form.
  4. 2 photographs that fulfill the following specifications:
    1. Background: light grey
    2. The shoulders must be the bottom corners of the photo
    3. Exact size: 4.5 cm high x 4 cm wide
  5. 6,20 Euros in German stamps to cover the cost of mailing the documents to Costa Rica

Procedure:

If the documents are complete and correct, an appointment at the Embassy or Honorary Consulate will be assigned in order to fill out the original application form. The original identification card (cédula de identidad) must be brought to the appointment.

Registration time in Costa Rica of the new electoral domicile: 2 months.
