VISA FOR UNPAID VOLUNTEERS AND INTERNS

(for a stay for more than 90 days)

Who can apply for this type of visa?

Individuals, who will participate in an internship or volunteer program and that fulfills the following conditions:

  1. Unpaid
  2. The organization is registered at the Immigration Department of Costa Rica (Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería)

Application Requirements:

  1. Application form.
  2. 1 recent passport-size photo.
  3. Copy of the information page of the passport. The passport must have a minimum validity of 6 months.
  4. Original or copy of the Acceptance letter from the organization or educational institution registered at the Immigration Department (Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería).
  5. Original and copy of the following documents with less than 6 months of issuance and duly apostilled:
    1. International birth certificate.
    2. Criminal record from the place where the applicant has lived during the last 3 years.
  6. Proof of economic solvency, by one of the following documents (Attention: either the original or a copy, signed and stamped by the employer or the respective financial institution have to be delivered):
    1. Bank statement that shows the movement of income and expenses for the last 3 months, or
    2. Titles of real estate properties and vehicles, or
    3. Official letter from the employer, indicating salary, years of service and current position, or
    4. Full-time students can provide proof of financial solvency of their parents. Please attach a certification of the student's academic record.
  7. Any other documents requested by the Consul after receiving the documents.

Starting the process at the Embassy or Honorary Consulate:

If the documents are complete and correct, an appointment at the Embassy or Honorary Consulate will be scheduled in order to stamp the visa in the passport. Please bring the original passport to the appointment.

 

Residency process in Costa Rica

  • - Any additional costs requested by the Immigration Department to finish the residency applicationprocess.
